Holme Manor Respite / DayCare
At the Manor we can provide respite care which is basically a service which enables full time carers to have a rest from looking after a loved one, to re charge their batteries and have some time to themselves.
This is a very essential service as it can and does avoid crisis situations in which the carer can feel overwhelmed by the responsibilities they have toward someone who may be highly dependent upon them. We can provide respite to cover holidays or to provide care when a person may be sometimes affected by an illness or infection which exascerbates their condition for a short period, these 'crisis' periods can be difficult for a carer and we do everything we can to get the individual well and fitter to go home wherever possible. Some of our customers come to us for respite for years.
We provide day care for up to four people at a time and this means that a person so wishing can come maybe in the morning, stay with us for luncheon and dinner and then be picked up to return home in the evening. This way an individual can enjoy company and care giving their main carer a break and simultaneously join in with any activities at the Manor, we always have someone using these facilities and have found that great benefit can be derived from our daycare services.
At the Manor we are very happy for someone to come in (after assessment) and use our daycare facilities for the day totally free of charge, that is no problem, their relatives and friends can come with them to see how they get on, we understand that everyone is different and have different needs, likes and dislikes and it is this understanding that informs all our policy on getting to know our customers and just as importantly giving them the chance without any obligations to know us. Hopefully that way trust and enduring relationships can be built which will lead to successful outcomes for everyone concerned. That is our ethos.
Sometimes after being discharged from hospital an individual may initially be very dependent and it may be helpful for them to be cared for until they have had a chance to fully regain their strength or even confidence to return home, this kind of short term care very often can stabilise a health issue with the result that further imminent hospital admission is avoided altogether. These are only examples and a person can come into us for many different reasons, whatever the reason our aim is to do the very best for them that can be done given the individual circumstances at that time.
